Share information about you, where you are from originally, and where you are now, and what you do:

My name is Candi Smoot, I was born and raised in Charleston, WV. I currently reside in Charlotte, NC. I’m a lead Compliance Officer at Wells Fargo Bank, an entrepreneur, an author, and financial coach.

What have you overcome?

I’ve had to overcome teen pregnancy and the stigma that goes with it. I was a single teenage mother. I had my first child at the age of 15. I was a freshman in high school. I had to finish high school, work, and take care of my son.

How did you know you needed to change?

Being a parent changes your outlook and perspective on life. My actions did not provide the best example. I did not want to be perceived in that way.

What steps did you take to implement change?

I leaned into my faith. As a child of God, I recognized that the situation did not define who I was or what I could become. I refocused on my studies, became the best parent I could be, and trusted God with the rest.

What encouraging words can you leave for the readers.

Your current situation, troubles, faults, mess does not define you. You are more than your circumstances. GOD is the author of your story. Each chapter will have different outcomes, but the end result will be amazing. Do not let anyone tell you different.

What is your favorite quote?

I do not necessarily have a favorite quote, but one of the scriptures I lean into is Jeremiah 29:11. For I know the plans I have your you, says the LORD.  They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and hope. God’s plans are different than our plans when we trust and align our plans with GOD.
